Project News

  • July 6, 2020  - The first photo taken by Jerry at 2:13 PM and shared via Instagram story.

  • October 2020 - Cayla begins taking and collecting images.

​

  • November 6, 2020 - Cayla becomes collaborating artist and practice becomes project.

​

  • April 29, 2021 - A project website is established and project is officially named Deface Project.

​

  • July 9 - July 26, 2021 - Cayla and Jerry worked on the printing of the photographs collected since July 2020, and construction of the artist book volumes. Three volumes were created during this two week period with the intention of more being added soon.

  • August 2, 2021 -The Deface Project was submitted to the Vanderbilt University COVID-19 Pandemic archive. Christopher Ryland, curator at the History of Medicine Collections and Archives at Vanderbilt Central Library, has been collecting campus artifacts and documentations of faculty, students, and staff projects, work, and artifacts created during 2020-2021 academic year.
     

  • August 15 - 20, 2021 - The Deface books (Jerry Volume  I and Vanderbilt University Volume) were on display in class at the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg, Tn.  The books served as examples of artist books during the Week 10 workshop, Book Bound and Determined, taught by Jerry Phillips.
     

  • August 27, 2021 - The Deface Project was accepted into the Vanderbilt University COVID-19 Pandemic archive. The project was submitted as digital documents and as an physical artist book.
     

  • October 2021 - The Deface Project artist book "Vanderbilt Volume" was catalogued with the Special Collections and University Archives within the Jean Heard Alexander Library at Vanderbilt University.
     

  • September 8 - October 30, 2022 - The Deface Project juried into the Centennial Alumni Juried Exhibition 2022 at Murray State University (Murray, Kentucky).
